Certified Isn't the Finish Line
Panel Notes: The Reality and Future of B Corp
From our event on March 26th in our Dalston store featuring;
- Joanna Adjetey De Palma, Engagement Manager, B Corp
- Anna Woods, Founder, Positive Retail
- Mat Moses, Creative Director, Geist
- Rosie Ingleby, Creative Director, DALA
- Rachel Carvell-Spedding, Founder, Navy Grey
The B Corp framework is evolving into 7 specific impact areas with strict minimum requirements. Getting certified is becoming harder, but that makes the certification much more meaningful.
➡️ Ongoing commitment: Certification is not the finish line. It is a collective commitment to being scrutinized and makes you deeply analyze every single area of your business.
➡️ The "harder road": No one chose an easy way to build their business, but the goal is to build brands we actually want to see in the world.
➡️ Putting value back: Modern business should be about putting value back into the industry, rather than just extracting it. Truth and value are rare commodities right now.
➡️ Rethinking the "hockey stick": Rapid, "hockey stick" exponential growth isn't always good, nor is it sustainable. Real growth is about creating value in a sustainable way, alongside the right people.
➡️ Being a B Corp isn't just about environmental impact; it’s about every aspect of your business being fundamentally decent. That baseline of decency deserves more respect.
➡️ The common thread is people: B Corp is a "declaration of interdependence"—we are all dependent on one another.
➡️ Factory relationships: Collaborative, respectful relationships with factory partners are the true cornerstone of driving impact and innovation.
➡️ People often misunderstand B Corp, thinking it’s "unsexy," requires compromising on business goals, or is too niche. The truth: It is a model for everyone, and it is the future of good business.
